When it comes to conceiving a baby knowing when you are about to ovulate can make all the difference. However, it can take time to get to know your body’s natural rhythms.
New technological developments are helping women to track their cycle more accurately and easily. We have found five of the top apps that are supporting women in their quest to have a baby.
5 Popular Smartphone Apps For Fertility
5th Place – Fertility Friend
One of the most commonly used smartphone apps for fertility tracking, this app can be used on both iPhones and Androids. The app is free and provides an ovulation calculator, menstrual calendar, period tracker, and fertility chart.
What can it do?
Users can track fertility signs such as menstruation, basal body temperature and cervical fluid symptoms. Based on this information Fertility Friend will advise predicted ovulation times and the ideal conception times.
Unfortunately, the Fertility Friend app is not available on the fast growing amazon appstore for Fire devices.
Why is it different?
Users also have the option of paying $45 for a premium membership to gain VIP access to global message boards to exchange experience and information. Another premium features is an intercourse timing analyser based on the predicted ovulation date.
2nd Runner up – Kindara Fertility Tracker
This is one of several high profile smartphone apps for fertility tracking, which has been described as ‘the future of reproductive health’. It is a free application that includes an ovulation calculator, basal body temperature chart and a period calendar.
The app is based on the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM). That means you are aware of your ovulation date, rather than blindly trusting the pill or a coil. The app can be used to track fertility (both to conceive or avoid pregnancy) and is used to help understand perimenopause, PCOS and other conditions.
As of December 2015 the app is in its early launch phase. The thermometer peripheral is not available until March 2016 and there is no app for the fast-growing amazon appstore. This is disappointing for a well-funded start up business. We will keep our eyes peeled.
Why is it different?
The KINDARA app works best when combined with Wink, their proprietary body temperature thermometer. This is a patent pending device, which looks like make-up.
It gets paired with your phone and is used to quickly (4 times faster, patent pending) and discretely (vibrate, no sound, don’t wake up your partner!) measure your temperature first thing when you wake up in the morning.
1st Runner Up – Glow: Ovulation Calculator, Fertility & Period Tracker
Glow is a high profile fertility app and winner of 2014 Webby for best Health & Fitness app. It is an elegant, sophisticated data-analysis driven ovulation calculator and period tracker designed to help women take control of their reproductive health.
Why is it different?
- A large number of free premium features: Email yourself a PDF of your ovulation results and other health data, could sync your health profile (including period tracker data and ovulation days), sync with other health apps like MyFitnessPal and Google Fit, fertility treatment support for IVF or IUI patients. You can refill your birth control prescription at Walgreens or Duane Reade.
- Track and record over 40 different health signals, including BBT, cervical mucus, sleep, stress, weight, exercise, ovulation calculator and more.
- Medication, ovulation, contraception, and period tracker reminders and beautiful charts of your menstrual, ovulation, and fertility data.
- Support from the Glow Community and additional Glow Nurture, Glow’s Pregnancy app + Mirror app for your partner.
- works with Apple Watch
THE WINNER – Period Calendar / Tracker
The numbers speak for themselves:
- The highest rated free (with in-app purchases) period calendar: rated 4.7 / 5 with 2,500,000 ratings on Android alone.
- Top 1 in Health & Fitness Over 43 Countries.
- Top 5 in Health & Fitness Over 63 Countries.
- Over 40,000,000 Android Users alone.
- available on all three top app stores.
Why is it different?
This app has all the extras for free: Dropbox data backup, multi-accounts, forums, available in 38 languages and it works with the apple watch. The only in-app purchase is for £2.29 to remove the adverts forever.
