Available Fertility Treatments
The Lister Fertility Clinic offers a wide range of treatments, including traditional IVF through to more recent advanced processes such as reproductive immunology and chromosomal screening. Below is a brief summary of the fertility treatments currently available at the Lister Fertility Clinic:
IVF – In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), is one of the most commonly used fertility treatments and can be used in a wide range of situations where falling pregnant is difficult. This process typically involves a cycle of appropriate fertility drugs, egg collection, fertilisation, and embryo transfer. The clinic also offers a variation of IVF, including Natural Cycle IVF and Low Stimulation IVF.
ICSI – Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a fertility treatment whereby a single sperm is injected into an egg. Very few sperm are required for this procedure and the egg penetration is performed manually.
IMSI – To select the best quality sperm for fertilisation, patients may choose a procedure called Intracytoplasmic Morphological Sperm Injection (IMSI). This procedure is often recommended for couples with highly abnormal or unusually low sperm samples. It is an advanced version of the ICSI procedure.
IUI – Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment whereby prepared sperm is introduced into the uterine cavity through the cervix using a fine catheter.
Blastocyst Transfer – Research has shown that in some cases ICSI and IVF outcomes can be improved by delaying the embryo transfer. Most fertility clinics transfer embryos two to three days following egg collection. After five or six days, embryos are referred to as blastocysts. In some circumstances, a blastocyst transfer may be recommended to improve implantation potential. It’s also possible to have good quality blastocysts frozen for later use.
Chromosome (CGH) Screening – Chromosomal abnormalities can lead to failed implantation or unhealthy babies. Undertaking chromosome screening before embryo implantation can help to reduce these problems. Current screening methods have a 98% accuracy for detecting abnormalities.
EmbryoScope™ – The Lister Fertility Clinic offers an EmbryoScope™ service. This is a time-lapse system enabling embryologists to carefully monitor the development of the embryos in a specialty designed incubator. This procedure is used in IVF treatments and helps specialists to observe development and ascertain which embryo is most likely to develop into a healthy pregnancy.
Ovarian Reserve Assessment/Ovulation Induction – The Lister Fertility Clinic has a reputation for optimising the outcome for patients that have responded ‘poorly’ to previous fertility treatments. Using ovarian reserve assessments, specialists are able to carefully analyse the possibility of enhancing the chance of achieving a successful pregnancy. This may include treatments such as ovulation induction and other procedures.
Surgical Semen Removal/Semen Freezing – For men without sperm in their ejaculate (azoospermia) surgical removal of sperm may be an option. This can be collected and frozen until ready for additional fertility treatments. Men able to produce semen with sperm may also choose to have their semen frozen for future use.
Egg/Embryo Freezing – With advances in cryopreservation techniques, it’s now possible to successfully freeze unfertilised eggs and embryos. This may be an option for individuals/couples who don’t wish to have a baby now, but would like to have the option later.
Reproductive Immunology – The Lister Fertility Clinic is a leader in reproductive immunology research. An overactive immune system can adversely affect pregnancy outcomes, which is why the clinic offers specialised testing and treatment for suitable patients.
The Lister Fertility Clinic is the only clinic in the UK that has eighteen specialised mini incubators. These incubators incorporate advanced technology that creates a more stable environment to better support embryo development and a successful blastocyst cultural programme. Other than the Lister Fertility Clinic, very few clinics in the UK offer IMSI and CGH (Comparative Genetic Hybridisation), making this facility one of the best available.
The prices for treatments at the Lister Fertility Clinic are broken into three different categories based on the procedures associated with each treatment.Learn more about cost of fertility treatment at The Lister Clinic
